Mayor Vincent A. Cianci, Jr. announced Friday that he has appointed Samuel J. Shamoon to the position of acting director of the city’s department of planning and development. Shamoon, who first joined the department in 1980, fills the vacancy left by John F. Palmieri, who recently resigned.
Shamoon, who holds an A.B. degree in political science and economics from Tufts University and a master’s degree of community planning from the University of Rhode Island, has been associate director of the city planning department since 1992.
