Stephen McGarvey has been named a fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Science for his research on genetic and environmental factors in diabetes, obesity and smoking among Pacific Islanders and the ecology of schistosomiasis in East Asia.
McGarvey is professor of community health and anthropology at Brown University, and also is director of the university’s International Health Institute.
