What is perhaps most surprising, and most encouraging, is how in some ways we have hardly changed at all – how we keep moving forward.

While everything from air travel to driving to the store have been affected by the aftermath of the heinous attacks on that brilliant September morning, we nonetheless continue our journey to the future, wary and shaken but unbowed. At home, at work, at school and at play, we continue striving for a better tomorrow.

It is altogether appropriate, then, that on this day we mourn the victims of September 11 – as well as the men and women who have lost their lives since, in conflicts around the world – and then we get back to the business of making this country stronger and healthier and safer.

Like our country’s founders before us, we must continue to find new paths, while holding true to who we are and what we want to be as a nation.
