Vo-tech project goes to E. Providence builder

NEW BEDFORD – The school and building committees in New Bedford have awarded a $10,987,700 contract to Bacon Construction Co. of East Providence as general contractor for an addition to and renovation of the Greater New Bedford Regional Vocational Technical High School. The committees reported that Bacon’s was the low bid among the six submitted. Work on a new three-story wing for classrooms and a one-story building to house the school’s plumbing and pipe-fitting program is scheduled to begin within weeks. A ceremonial groundbreaking is planned for March. Renovations include a new roof, installation of energy-efficient doors, windows and lights, improvement of the air conditioning system and reconstructed parking lots.
