PROVIDENCE – Dr. Sonali Pandya a breast surgeon at the Breast Health Center at Women & Infants Hospital, a Care New England hospital, received the Unsung Heroine Award from Powerful Independent Notoriously Knowledgeable (colloquially called PINK) Women.  Dana Haseotes, a Breast Health Center social worker, served as the awards ceremony’s keynote speaker.

As an all-women organization on the University of Rhode Island campus, PINK strives to empower women to gain influence through community services and deeds. The Annual Unsung Heroine Awards offers an opportunity to honor women in the community who have impacted the lives of many and continue to do so with their keen spirits and selfless actions.

Dr. Pandya earned her medical degree from Saint George’s University School of Medicine, Grenada, West Indies, completed a general surgery residency at Albany Medical Center and a Society of Surgical Oncology Breast Disease Fellowship at Women & Infants. Her research interest focuses on breast cancer in young women and she is helping develop support programs for this group of survivors. She also helps with breast exam training for the residency programs at Memorial Hospital.
