NEWPORT –
LiveWave, Inc., a leading developer of digital video and camera control systems
for security and broadcast applications, recently announced it has partnered
with Argonne National Laboratory as part of the PROTECT (Program for Response
Options and Technology Enhancements for Chemical/Biological Terrorism) subway
program.

Newport-based LiveWave’s VirtualPerimeterTM technology provides a video component
of the program by linking Argonne’s emergency management software with the existing
cameras of any given subway system. Emergency personnel, both locally and remotely,
are then able to view high quality video and control cameras via secure networks
to better evaluate and respond to any crisis situation.

Employing chemical sensors, PROTECT will provide first responders with accurate
information about airborne chemical attacks in large public interior spaces.
PROTECT significantly reduces response time to an incident, potentially saving
hundreds to thousands of lives in the event of a chemical attack.

Lifespan purchases pulse
oximeters technology

PROVIDENCE – Lifespan recently agreed to purchase and
install 296 Nellcor(R) N-595 Pulse Oximeters, the cornerstone of the new OxiMax(TM)
Pulse Oximetry System manufactured by Nellcor, a Pleasanton, Calif.-based company.

Nellcor said Lifespan is the first health system in New England to standardize
on OxiMax, Nellcor’s latest pulse oximetry technology.

“Nellcor has provided us with a new level of technology that allows us to
respond more efficiently and safely to our patients’ needs,” said Sherry Nelson,
RN, Clinical Manager of the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit for Hasbro Children’s
Hospital. “I’m impressed with the accuracy and speed of the OxiMax system, and
it’s affording us an increased level of security in treating our critically
ill children.”

The OxiMax Pulse Oximetry System includes the new Nellcor N-595 Pulse

Oximeter and Nellcor’s new family of interactive OxiMax sensors. Pulse oximetry
is used in many clinical areas to noninvasively monitor patient oxygenation
status. The OxiMax system has a unique design that incorporates intelligence
into both the pulse oximetry sensor and monitor, the company said. The intelligence
creates a communication link between the monitor and sensor that enables the
OxiMax system to communicate valuable information to the caregiver.
