Douglas A. Caniglia is as dedicated to the community as he is to his clients.
In addition to being owner and president of DCI Construction Inc., Caniglia is founder and chair of the Rhode Island Partnership Foundation and the Zoo Charity Golf Tournament, and a member of the board of directors for Big Sisters of Rhode Island.
After five years as a senior project manager for Brownstone Construction LLC, he established DCI in 1997 with a vision of providing “honest, opportunistic-based consulting” to clients. The construction management firm focuses on project detail and representation to clients from the commercial, financial, government and residential sectors of the industry.
In 2001, he became the youngest person ever to be elected by his peers as a national director for the Construction Specifications Institute. He held the position until 2004, also serving as Northeast regional president of CSI.
In 2004, he pursued accreditation for the Rhode Island Partnership Foundation – a nonprofit dedicated to community outreach and community giving.
The foundation and the Roger Williams Park Zoo hold an annual charity golf tournament to provide additional fundraising for the zoo. Proceeds have gone toward memberships, learning programs and core capital improvements.
The organization also underwrites specific zoo membership programs to benefit underprivileged children and other Rhode Island nonprofits, and has provided direct funding and benefits to the Rhode Island Zoological Society, the R.I. Department of Children, Youth and Families, Rhode Island Foster Families, Saint Mary’s Home for Children and Big Sisters of Rhode Island.
Caniglia is also a member of Leadership Rhode Island. He is also a member of the Greater Providence and Northern Rhode Island Chambers of Commerce.
Caniglia credits his success to friends and peers. “In my career, it has not been one person that has made a difference for me – it has been many,” he wrote in his 40 Under Forty application. “I believe strongly that relationships and leadership have given me a perspective to reflect upon and become the person I am today.”
