Rep. Charles J. Levesque, a Portsmouth Democrat, has introduced legislation and
asked for immediate consideration of the House of Representatives, which will
require an independent audit of the legislative account — and require quarterly
reports of all expenditures to the members of the legislature.
In a letter to his colleagues, Levesque said; “I am frustrated by the lack of response by the leaders of the House regarding the expenditures from the legislative account. Over a year ago, I and many others (including a unanimous State Senate), raised concerns over the expenditure of citizen’s money in our name. One year later, and we are no closer to having answers to our questions; we are no closer to knowing how and why money is spent in our name; no closer to exercising the control over the money spent in our name.”

He continued. “Some members of the House have expressed to me that they are angry at the articles that have appeared in the Providence Journal about the legislature. I am angry also. I am angry because we are all being criticized; we are all painted with the same broad brush.”
