The Rhode Island Coalition Against Domestic Violence (RICADV) is collaborating with Rhode Island companies and police departments in the Donate a Phone program. A national initiative sponsored by the Wireless foundation, Motorola and the National Coalition Against Domestic Violence, the program collects used wireless phones to help victims of abuse. The local program is a partnership between Nextel Communications, Federal Express, NBC10, RICADV and local police departments. The phones will be recycled and refurbished before they are distributed to victims of domestic violence for use in an emergency situation. Donations may be made in January at drop off sites across the state, including police departments in Woonsocket, Providence, Warwick, South Kingstown and Newport; RICADV’s office in Warwick; and four Nextel locations including the main office in Providence.
